Mid-Maine Adult Community Education Film Series: Russian Historical Landmarks in Film

The Kotlas-Waterville Area Sister City Connection will offer a film and discussion series, Russian Historical Landmarks in Film, in the 2012 Winter/Spring Session of the Mid-Maine Adult Community Education. The class will highlight four key periods in Russian history: the formation of the infant Russian state (13th century); the turbulent revolutionary period (early 20th century); World War II and the devastation of Russia; and Stalin's infamous GULAG (system of penal labor camps). The films are Russian classics, and the directors are world-renowned. Our series concludes with a festive Russian dinner.

  • Tuesday, March 27, 2012, Alexander Nevsky
  • Tuesday, April 3, 2012, Mother
  • Tuesday, April 10, 2012, The Cranes are Flying
  • Tuesday, April 24, 2012, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
  • Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Russian Dinner.

All sessions will meet at the Waterville High School, Tuesday evenings, 6:00 - 8:30 pm. Course fee is $35.00, which supports the Connection's student and teacher exchanges. For more information, please contact Sheila McCarthy at smccarth@colby.edu.
